So to work out the volume of a cuboid, we have this super simple formula: Volume = Length × Width × Height.
What Is Volume?
First of all, the volume is the amount of space that a shape takes up. So we're talking about all of the measurements of this cuboid, which is how much space it takes up in space.
What Is a Cuboid?
A cuboid is a three-dimensional shape. It has a height, length, and width. Each face of a cuboid is a rectangle.
Find the Volume of a Cuboid
To find the volume of any cuboid, all we have to do is multiply the length, width, and height together. In fact, all we are doing is finding the area of one of the faces and then multiplying it by the width to determine how many times that area will fit into the whole cuboid.
1. 6cm, 4cm, 2cm Cuboid
Step 1: V=L x W x H
Step 2: V=8 x 5 x 3 = 120cm³
2. 5cm, 4cm, 3cm Cuboid
Step 1: V=L x W x H
Step 2: V=5 x 4 x 3 = 60cm³
3. 1cm, 3cm, 6cm Cuboid
Step 1: V=L x W x H
Step 2: V=1 x 3 x 6 = 18cm³
4. 5mm, 5mm, 6mm Cuboid
Step 1: V=L x W x H
Step 2: V=5 x 5 x 6 = 150mm³
5. 12m, 5m, 7m Cuboid
Step 1: V=L x W x H
Step 2: V=12 x 5 x 7 = 420m³
Finally
As you can see, the volume formula is a multiplication operation. And multiplication is commutative, so it doesn't really matter which way around we put these measurements. We are still going to get the same answer.
